Larry Horwitz, director of brewing operations at Crooked Hammock Brewery, recommends Rocket Pop Hard Seltzer as one of his favorite Fourth of July beverages.

Red, White and Brews: Part Three

America’s 250th birthday is upon us, and man, that’s a lot of candles. But we’re here to talk beer, not cake.

It’s become a bit of a Brewsworthy tradition to check in with our local brewing community leading up to the Fourth of July to see just how they celebrate. The brewers who bring us the beverage we all know and love certainly know a thing or two about beer, so let’s turn it over to them …

Jon Schorah

Head Brewer,
Dewey Beer Company

“Our new year-round lager, Dewey Light Lime Lager, is my new go-to for the summer. It’s crisp and low ABV with a hint of lime, so it makes me want more after each sip. Hoping to crack a few of these on the beach over the weekend of the Fourth, as that is always the best way to celebrate the holiday here in southern Delaware.”

Justin Leahy

Head Brewer, Thompson Island Brewing Company

“My go-to beer for the Fourth is our Thompson Island Summer Pilsner. As for holiday traditions, watching Jeff Goldblum save humanity in Independence Day is always a must.”

Larry Davies

Brewmaster,
Bethany Brewing Company

“We’re participating in the annual Bethany Beach parade with a stars-and-stripes-themed float supporting the country’s 250th anniversary. At the brewery, we’ll have a new Hefeweizen on tap alongside a 2% ABV Pale Ale that can be infused with a little lemonade to create a shandy.”

Larry Horwitz

Director of Brewing Operations, Crooked Hammock Brewery

“Every Fourth of July, I like to fill the cooler with drinks that remind me why I love brewing in America. This year, you’ll find a few Crooked Hammock favorites inside. I’ll start with a Hammock Light Lager while the grill is heating up. It’s crisp, refreshing and exactly the kind of beer that belongs at a backyard cookout. When it’s time to cool off, I’m reaching for our Rocket Pop Hard Seltzer. With its nostalgic flavor, it’s a fun, festive, refreshing way to celebrate summer. And because it’s Independence Day, I’ll be packing a fresh crowler of our limited Independence Pale Ale from our Lewes brewery. It’s the perfect beer to raise during the fireworks. Great drinks, great food, family, friends and a little red, white and blue. That’s what the Fourth of July is all about.”

Mickey Diefenderfer

Head Brewer, Revelation
Craft
Brewing Company

“When the Fourth rolls around, I usually reach for something light, crisp and refreshing … a beer you’ll keep coming back to. For me, that’s a Montucky Cold Snack. If you know, you know. Here at Revelation, my go-tos are Worth The Wait, our hop-forward Hazy IPA and 1791, our easy-drinking Pilsner. On the day of, I keep it simple: hanging with friends and family before the fireworks, Cold Snack in hand, of course.”

With the holiday practically here, it’s a party in the USA. You now have a good shopping list for your upcoming beer run. Happy hunting, and three cheers to the red, white and brews.
