Daytrippin’

A One-Way Ticket to Cold Beer

Nothing beats a little road trip, especially when the destination is a land of refreshment. This week, we’re getting behind the wheel and checking out some spots that make for a great daytrip. All of these establishments are within about an hour’s drive, depending on where you’re starting and how traffic is looking. Buckle up – let’s get going.

Sinepuxent Brewing Company

Just south of Ocean City in Berlin, Md., you’ll find this lovely little farm brewery. Sinepuxent offers a welcoming draft list, with a variety of ales and lagers, as well as hard ciders, seltzers, and teas. Frequent live music is a highlight, but the best feature? Resident goats on-site. I did say it’s a farm brewery.

Berlin Beer Company

Berlin Beer Company is entering its first summer season after opening last September. A food menu is provided by The Street Kitchen. In addition to beer brewed in-house, they also have a full bar. I recommend Green Suede Shoes, Berlin Beer Company’s flagship hazy IPA.

Burley Oak Brewing Company

One final stop in Berlin leads us to Burley Oak. Known for its IPAs and JREAM fruited sour series, the beer here is top notch. The kitchen is cranking out California-style street tacos that you won’t want to miss.

Loakal Branch

A hop, skip, and a jump over to Delmar, Del., drops us at Burley Oak’s sister spot, Loakal Branch. Serving their own beers as well as brews from Burley Oak, there’s a little something for everyone here. A regular rotation of food trucks keeps the bites as good as the beer.

Burnish Beer Company

Sliding down to Salisbury, Md., we’re stopping at Burnish Beer Co. next. Burnish has a full kitchen, sixteen rotating taps, wine, and cocktails. On these hot summer days, I’m reaching for something cold, crisp, and refreshing – that means I’m ordering a Roy Light, Burnish’s core American light lager.

Rail Haus

We’re heading north to Dover for our final stop. While not an actual brewery, Rail Haus is a beer garden with an impressive beer program, so it’s worth a shoutout. You’ll find a wide variety of German ales and lagers, along with fresh local craft brews. Ample outdoor seating is available – and nothing beats a beer on a beautiful day.
