Dewey Beer Company opened its doors 11 years ago. Time flies when you’re having fun in the sun. Early in its tenure, Dewey became a fan favorite among locals and tourists alike. Hazy IPAs, fruited sours and refreshing lagers are guaranteed to hit the spot after a day at the beach. The food at the original brewpub delivers as well. It’s no surprise that Dewey Beer Co. was named the second-best brewpub in America by USA Today this year.
Five years ago, Dewey opened a second location in Harbeson. Did I already mention time flies? Harbeson is home to Dewey’s production facility, which houses a 30-barrel brewhouse. As for food, they took a different approach. Few things go together better than pizza and beer.
With that in mind, Pizza Machine was born in a building next door in Harbeson, serving up wood-fired pizzas with fun names like That Boujee Cheese Jawn and Planet Pepperoni alongside salads, subs and shareables.
Following in the footsteps of its Dewey Beer Co. family, Pizza Machine now has a second location. About a month ago, Pizza Machine Classic, as they are calling it, opened for business on Coastal Highway in the Safeway shopping center in Rehoboth Beach. Formerly home to Hammy’s Burgers & Shakes, Pizza Machine Classic has put its own touch on the space with a modern take on the nostalgic neighborhood pizza parlor.
“Opening a second location in Rehoboth has been a goal of ours for a long time. With Pizza Machine Classic, we wanted to build on everything people love about our original concept while expanding the menu,” said Brandon Smith, owner of Pizza Machine and Dewey Beer Company. “We’re excited to bring that experience to the heart of Rehoboth Beach.”
Of course, Pizza Machine Classic is still serving up handcrafted pies, slices, salads and wings. However, hot sandwiches are new to the menu. Cheesesteaks, chicken cheesesteaks and creative options like the Coppa Coop don’t miss. I recommend the Chicken Caesar Cutlet, stacked with fresh romaine, Parmesan and creamy Caesar dressing.
Naturally, you’ll need something to pair with your meal. Pizza Machine Classic offers an extensive selection of Dewey beers alongside a rotating lineup of craft favorites. They also have an assortment of sodas, hard seltzers and wine, as well as a beer-to-go cooler for stocking up before heading home.
