This past weekend in Rehoboth Beach was more than just a whirlwind of wigs, waterproof eyeliner, and sweat-soaked tights. It was a celebration of love, visibility, and the undeniable strength of community.
Saturday morning, I had the incredible honor of performing at Rehoboth Pride – standing in front of that joyful, vibrant crowd, surrounded by flags, families, and chosen families. It was nothing short of magical. To be welcomed by this beachside town as an out-and-proud drag performer is something I’ll never take for granted.
That night, I traded the sunscreen for sequins and headed to Freddie’s. Both Freddie’s and Goolee’s have played a huge part in my drag journey. These aren’t just venues – they’re sanctuaries. They’ve opened their doors to performers like me with warmth, joy, and genuine support.
Saturday night’s show at Freddie’s was pure magic. Packed house. Big laughs. Big wigs. Bigger energy. And through it all, I couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed with gratitude – for the crowd, for the space, for the memories.
But Sunday? Sunday was different. It wasn’t about the spotlight – it was about showing up.
That morning, I joined others outside Goolee’s Grill to peacefully support our drag and LGBTQ+ community in response to a small protest. It wasn’t a glamorous moment, but it was a meaningful one. Pride isn’t only about the parties and performances – it’s about showing up for one another, even when it’s early, hot, and you’re running on three hours of sleep and Red Bull.
What I saw this weekend reminded me why I love Rehoboth. It’s a community that celebrates, gathers, and stands together. From the cheers at the convention center to the kind words exchanged on the sidewalk – every moment mattered.
To every single person who came out … thank you. And to the groups who helped organize and support – Sussex Pride, CAMP Rehoboth, Rehoboth Beach Pride, Speak Out Against Hate, Indivisible Delaware, and the Delaware Anti-Violence Project – your efforts helped make the weekend what it was. You reminded us that Pride is about togetherness, joy, and support.
This town, as small as it may be, holds a big, welcoming heart – and I’m so grateful to be a part of it.
Until next time … stay proud, stay loud, and tip your local queens (emotionally and financially).
