Shell Yeah: Celebrating Art, Oysters, and Local Music

The Delaware coast is more than just a scenic backdrop – it’s a living, breathing muse. This summer, its natural beauty and biodiversity take center stage at Soundbite Sunday: Inland Bays Oyster Week Edition, happening Sunday, August 3, from 2 to 7 p.m. at West Side Creative Market. Hosted by DAC, this vibrant, family-friendly event invites the community to enjoy a unique blend of live music, local food, and oyster- and seashell-inspired art that pays tribute to our coastal heritage.

Among the featured artists are Hari Cameron, whose striking lino cuts explore the delicate forms and rhythms of marine life, and Maggie Heffernan, whose layered textures and colors evoke the quiet magic of the tidal zone. Both artists channel the soul of our inland bays – the oysters, the salt air, and the flow of water that shapes life here.

Soundbite Sunday isn’t just a celebration of art – it’s a call to gather, connect, and honor the richness of our environment. Guests can enjoy craft drinks from the Creative Market Bar, a curated lineup of local food vendors, and live performances by the Jackie Johnson Jazz Trio and MF Heat Co., all in the heart of West Rehoboth.

And the creativity doesn’t stop there.

On Wednesday, August 7, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Maggie Heffernan returns to lead Art on the Half-Shell, an intimate, beginner-friendly painting workshop where guests will create their own coastal-inspired artwork. The evening includes fresh oysters and perfectly paired wine, offering a multisensory experience that blends taste, art, and the coastal spirit we all share. Tickets are $40 and include all materials – advance registration is required.

Whether you’re a seasoned art lover or just oyster-curious, these events offer a chance to slow down, appreciate the natural world, and celebrate the powerful role art plays in connecting people to place.

Come for the oysters. Stay for the art. Leave with a little more wonder.
