Bikes, Beer, Glitter and a Ghost Hunt

Those Early Days of June

The season is officially open, and the calendar is not pacing itself. Here is your epic week.

JUNE 5 – The Bottle & Cork in Dewey Beach hands over the stage to 49 Winchester, a road-worn Virginia roots-rock band with a distortion pedal and a fiddle. 8 p.m. If you like your twang with teeth, this is the one.

JUNE 6 – Dogfish Head’s Bikes & Beers rolls out of the Milton brewery. Pick a route, pedal it, collect your pint at the finish. Cycling plus beer feels aggressively Sussex County and aggressively fun.

JUNE 7 – Clear Space Theatre Company’s Tony Party at the Cambria Hotel in Rehoboth Beach, 4 to 7 p.m. Dinner buffet, a bar and your own Tony ballot while the broadcast rolls. It is their Arts Institute fundraiser, so the schmancy night out turns into scholarships for local kids.

JUNE 11 – Two very different moods. Same day. Start with free kite-making at Grove Park in Rehoboth Beach, 9 to 10 a.m. Then end the night at The Room at Cedar Grove, where The Nighthawks play. The D.C. roots and blues outfit has been at it since 1972, and the room is one of the few around here that is truly built for listening. Dinner and show, $65.

JUNE 13 – The Lewes Historical Society runs its Haunted Histories Paranormal Tour, 8 to 10:30 p.m. Real history, allegedly real ghosts, flashlights encouraged. $35.

JUNE 7 – Jesse Ruben with Ruby Winter

Jesse Ruben’s hit “This Is Why I Need You” has quietly passed 13 million streams. He wrote the song after battling Lyme disease for two years, a stretch that nearly took away his ability to write music at all. Ruben builds songs out of plain, honest storytelling, and his shows are the kind where the room goes quiet on purpose. Ruby Winter opens. 7 p.m.

JUNE 5 – No Direction Booking Presents: GRĀVELŌRD, X-Cell & Farm Machinery

JUNE 6 – Copilot with Nate McCormick

JUNE 8 – MERR Institute screening of Ocean with David Attenborough
