We are deep into August, the month that shows up to every party it was invited to and a few it wasn’t. Here’s your week, from arena stages down to somebody’s front porch.
AUG 7: Joe Bonamassa rocks everyone’s face off at Freeman Arts Pavilion at 7:30 p.m. Off the big stage, there are three quieter finds: Atlanta indie band Improvement Movement performs free at Dogfish Head in Rehoboth; Frantic Music Project hosts a house (porch) concert with friend of the Booth Skribe; and Historic Lewes First Friday brings colonial ale and live music to Sussex Tavern from 4 to 7 p.m. Yes, the ale is real.
AUG 9: The String Cheese Incident performs at Freeman at 6:15 p.m. Confession from a card-carrying Xennial: String Cheese is a load-bearing wall of my musical upbringing, so do not come to me for objectivity here. Earlier that day, Brimming Horn Meadery in Milton hosts Mead, Merchants & Music, a makers market featuring a Frantic Frets open mic and a set from friend of the Booth Al Frantic.
AUG 10: The Fray with Dashboard Confessional performs at Freeman at 6 p.m. See above regarding objectivity. Dashboard and I have a history, most of it involving a car and an unreasonable number of feelings.
AUG 12 AND 13: Rocking the Docks brings Melvin Seals & JGB to the Lewes Ferry Grounds for two nights on the water. Seals played the Hammond B3 in the Jerry Garcia Band for decades, so the man knows a groove. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., music begins at 6 p.m. and children 12 and younger are admitted free. Rather stay dry? SummerScape at the Lewes Public Library traces a living history of the blues with Linda Harris and Main Street Blues at 7 p.m., Aug. 12.

AUG 8: Justin Trawick and the Common Good
Justin Trawick is a staple of The Listening Booth. He has worked the D.C. songwriting scene since 2006, long enough to build The 9 Songwriter Series, a podcast and a small empire around the idea that songs are better shared. His own songs are warm, road-worn Americana performed with a full band. He has opened for The Wallflowers and Suzanne Vega and shared bills with the Avett Brothers. The show begins at 7 p.m. and is worth leaving the couch for. Local favorite Nancy Curry will open.
