It may be late July, but there’s plenty of summer left. Here’s a week of great music and quirky little things to keep the feeling going.
JULY 23 – Freeman Arts Pavilion gives the stage to homegrown talent with Locals Under the Lights, 7 p.m. A good reminder of how much talent is hiding in this county.
JULY 24 – Stick around at Freeman … Trombone Shorty brings New Orleans to Selbyville. Troy Andrews has been playing since he was 4, has shared stages with the Rolling Stones and turns a horn section into weather. Freeman Arts Pavilion, 7 p.m. The big one this week.
JULY 26 & 28 – Rocking the Docks closes out July on the water with Eggy on July 26 and Seattle soul band The Dip on July 28. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., music starts at 6 p.m., kids 12 and younger get in free and sunset is on the house.
JULY 29 – An African Drum Circle with Mister Boom Boom takes over the Lewes Public Library pavilion for SummerScape, 7 p.m. Free, outdoors and built for restless kids.
Want it smaller and closer to the ground? Brimming Horn Meadery in Milton has friend of the Booth the Al Frantic Band July 23 at 6 p.m. Dogfish Head runs free music all weekend, including friend of the Booth Kerry Hallett at the Milton brewery July 24 at 5:30 p.m. The Milton Theatre heads outdoors for its Quayside series with friends of the Booth Lower Case Blues July 23 and Mama’s Black Sheep July 30.

JULY 25 – David Cook
Okay, this one is sold out, so it’s not exactly fair to tease you with it.
Yes, that David Cook. The one who won American Idol in 2008 and then quietly went and built a real career out of it. He writes sturdy, radio-shaped rock and roll, has kept putting out records long after the show stopped mattering and, by every account, treats a 100-seat room as seriously as a theater.
This one moved fast. Don’t wait on tickets next time.
