While Pride Month may have come to a close, the celebration of queer joy, resilience, and visibility continues this weekend in Rehoboth Beach. Our vibrant seaside town is set to host Rehoboth Pride, presented by Sussex Pride in collaboration with Gay Women of Rehoboth Beach – and I’m deeply honored to be part of this year’s event.
Rehoboth has always held a special place in the hearts of the LGBTQIA+ community. It’s more than just a vacation spot … it’s a safe haven, a gathering ground, and a place where many of us found not only acceptance but family. To now take the stage at a Pride celebration in the very town that gave me my start as a drag performer feels full-circle in the most meaningful way.
A Day of Celebration
The festivities kick off Saturday, July 19, at the Rehoboth Convention Center with a Pride Expo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Attendees can expect a lively and welcoming environment filled with community resources, LGBTQIA+ organizations, local vendors, and educational opportunities. Whether you’re looking to connect, learn, or simply celebrate, the Expo offers something for everyone.
At 1:40 p.m., I’ll be joining an incredible lineup of local performers as part of the day’s entertainment. Sharing the stage with me are the incomparable JC Pizzaz, the stunning Ivy Austin, and the one and only Roxy Overbrooke, who will serve as this year’s emcee. These entertainers each bring their own unique style and artistry, and I’m thrilled to be in such fierce company.
Later in the evening, from 6 to 11 p.m., the Convention Center will host a Pride Celebration – a high-energy showcase of drag, music, comedy, and community spirit. It’s an opportunity to come together, to dance, laugh, and continue the celebration into the night.
Why This Matters
Being invited to perform at Rehoboth Pride is more than just a gig – it’s a moment of reflection and deep gratitude. This town believed in me from the beginning. It’s where I was given the chance to grow not just as a performer, but as a person. To stand on this stage and celebrate Pride alongside so many incredible individuals is a reminder of how far we’ve come – and how important it is to keep showing up for each other.
Whether you’re a longtime local or visiting for the weekend, I invite you to come out, show your pride, and support this beautiful event. I’ll be performing at 1:40 p.m., and I promise you a show full of heart, humor, and high kicks (or at least a strong attempt).
See you there – and until next time, I’m Kadet Kelly – your rhinestoned reporter on the ground, in the glitter, and forever grateful for this community.
