TRUE OR FALSE:
__ Libraries only have books
__ Libraries are only open to people with library cards
__ Libraries are for quiet adults, not noisy children
__ Libraries are for locals only
__ Librarians frown on people staying too long
__ Libraries are boring
These are all common – but false – beliefs about libraries.
Today’s libraries offer so much more: public-use computers, Wi-Fi, safe spaces to hang out, study rooms for quiet time, and children’s rooms designed for fun. Some even have teen rooms, complete with tech. And you’ll find knowledgeable, friendly librarians who are happy to help you find what you need – or leave you to relax in peace.
Bethany Beach, Lewes, and Rehoboth Beach all have public libraries that welcome visitors as well as locals. While you won’t be able to check out materials without a Delaware library card, you can still use books, magazines, DVDs, and even jigsaw puzzles while you’re there – and take part in any public programs or activities.
Our libraries host a wide range of (mostly free) programs, including story times and crafts for kids, literary and musical performances, author talks, game nights, and movie screenings.
You can find each library’s calendar and hours on its website. Hours vary by location, but all three libraries are closed on Sundays.
If you’re a part-time resident or frequent visitor, you may be eligible for a non-resident library card that allows you to borrow materials.
See you at the library!
