The Break Room: Serving Beach Town Banter

Liz Mantey and Magnolia Applebottom

The Break Room is a popular LGBTQ+ hosted series dedicated to everything happening in Rehoboth Beach and the surrounding area. Hosted by Liz Mantey and Magnolia Applebottom, the talk show has the vibe of a filmed podcast and is showcased on a dedicated YouTube channel and streamed across social media. The duo delivers local updates with snark and fun. Think The Giggly Squad, but with more color, more glitter and more local happenings – focusing on drag shows, happy hours, concerts, food and restaurant events, nightlife and all the fun places to see and be seen at the beach.

Liz is the director of marketing for the Delaware Restaurant Association and a wig influencer.

“I wear all different wigs! I always hated my thin hair and fell in love with wigs. This is my community, so dressing up has always felt normal and fun,” she explains.

Meanwhile, Magnolia is the reigning queen of Rehoboth Beach, literally crowned Rehoboth Drag Queen of the Year. She has been a full-time drag performer for nearly a decade, showcasing her vocals, comedy and general pizzazz.

“She’s always busy and fabulous, so I’m really grateful we make the time to create The Break Room together,” Liz says.

The duo met in 2019 at the annual Rehoboth Beach Sea Witch® Festival, where they both found themselves dressed as pizza and sharing space in a pizza van while waving to festivalgoers. Like many dynamic duos, it only took one afternoon over pizza – literally – for a friendship to form.

In March 2025, they teamed up to launch The Break Room, first on Instagram, then YouTube and now TikTok, where they have amassed thousands of followers.

“People have received it well! We have good banter and love to laugh,” Liz says.

Since it’s Pride Month, we asked Liz to add her voice to the mix.

“On TikTok, we get a mix of love but also a lot of hate. On Instagram, it’s more positivity and love because it’s people we know. We’re lucky, though, because Rehoboth is a place that feels like every day is Pride Month. It’s really special here,” she says. “We want all people to know this is a place where you can be comfortable and safe being yourself.”

While The Break Room is still young – just over a year old – Liz confirms the pair is here to stay.

“I would love to get to a level where we have additional segments, local sponsorships and collaborations,” Liz says.

So, hint hint: If you want to join forces with this fabulous duo, you may want to reach out now while the getting’s good.

Local Restaurant:
Liz: Kristina’s Kitchen in Millville. They have amazing Gluten Free options and I love their Pop-Tarts.
Magnolia: Well it all depends on what flavors I’m feeling on that particular day. However, Mariachi,
Blue Moon, Henlopen Oyster House, and Theo’s are my certain go-to places for an amazing meal.

Favorite Beach Activity:
Liz: Taking a break and reading a book
Magnolia: I actually don’t go to the beach here.
If I can’t see my feet I’m not getting in the water.
I’m more often at a pool party with friends.

Favorite Sunset Spot:
Liz: Dewey has great sunsets, Lighthouse or Rudder for sure.
Magnolia: What’s a sunset?  That’s normally when I’m getting ready for a show, but any place in Dewey is where to go, due to the sun sets in the west!

Currently Crushing On:
Liz: All the Bravo Summerhouse Drama. (I did see Kyle DJ in Dewey)
Magnolia: I got a man…so HIM. Not trying to get in trouble
