Southern Delaware, You’re Wild

We traded last week’s goat snuggles and sidewalk piano strolls for this week’s orchestral swells and vintage handbags. Somehow, it all still makes perfect Southern Delaware sense.

On Saturday, August 9, doors at 6 p.m., Hudson Fields becomes Lego-Fest central as Revival House brings The Lego Movie to a 50-foot screen under the stars. Live music, food trucks, crafts, and the weirdly healing power of watching animated bricks discover that everything truly is awesome.

That same night, at 9 p.m., Dogfish Head hosts Polaroid Fade, the South Jersey band that sounds like someone time-traveled to 1983, got their heart broken in a neon alley, and wrote a perfect soundtrack about it. Think dreamy synths, emotional vocals, and just enough edge to keep it from feeling too nostalgic.

Sunday, August 10, is split in two: Bubbles & Birks at Chic at the Beach (come for the champagne, leave with a vintage cloche you’ll tell no one what you paid for). Then there’s the Battle of the Bachelors & Bachelorettes at Aqua, where camp meets competition in the name of a good cause. Hosted by Roxy Overbrooke with beats by DJ Biff, it’s part drag show, part dating game, and all for CAMP Rehoboth. Contestants strut, charm, and hustle for donations – and you might just leave with a crush or a charitable deduction.

On Tuesday, August 12, SODELO brings 75 local musicians to the Freeman Arts Pavilion for a night of full-orchestra brilliance. Born just two years ago as a string ensemble, they’ve grown into a powerful mix of brass, woodwinds, and heart. It’s Sussex County’s symphony, stepping onto the biggest stage in town. Bring a blanket, a friend, and let the music do what music does best – move you.

Marissa’s Picks at The Listening Booth

Thursday, August 7 – Katie Dahl & Grace Morrison

Two of my absolute favorite singer-songwriters, sharing the stage but bringing their own worlds with them. Katie’s songs are thoughtful, poetic, and quietly powerful – like a compass pointing you back to yourself. Grace is all fire and charm, blending country, folk, and pop in a way that makes you want to dance barefoot, drive too fast, and maybe start a little trouble. They’ll be trading songs and stories in the round – come for the music, stay for the magic.

August 10 – Delaware Friends of Folk Pick In

August 10 – Sunday Social Open Jam

August 12 – Finding the Groove with Nate McCormick

August 13 – Open Mic Night hosted by Nate McCormick
