It’s hard to believe, but summer is already winding down. Backpacks are reappearing, lunchboxes are being pried from the depths of kitchen cabinets, and kids (and parents) are bracing for the great annual reset known as back-to-school. Around here, it feels like we lived an entire novel in just a few short months – full of wacky adventures, unexpected surprises, and, of course, music.
On Thursday, Sept. 4, at 7 p.m., Lake Street Dive takes over Freeman Arts Pavilion. Their mix of soul, pop, and rock is impossible not to dance to. Bring a blanket, your friends, and your best attempt at rhythm. I’ll be there – say hi.
The very next night, Friday, Sept. 5, at 9 p.m., catch indie folk songwriter Ryan Yingst at Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats. His songs move between love, loss, and hope with the ease of someone who’s been everywhere and felt everything.
By Monday, Sept. 8, things get cozier with Flaming Knitters at Panera Bread on Coastal Highway. All levels are welcome. The vibe is craft therapy with conversation in an LGBTQ+ affirming space.
Finally, on Wednesday, Sept. 10, from 6 to 9 p.m., Chef Zeus hosts his intimate cooking class at Benvenuto. Only eight seats are available, which makes it less like dinner and more like a secret society – except you leave full. Call 302-265-2652.

Sept. 25: A Fundraiser for the Delaware Friends of Folk Featuring The Rough & Tumble and The Honeybadgers
This one isn’t happening right away, but it’s a show not to miss. Two of my favorite music-making married couples are raising funds for an awesome organization. Tickets start at $35, and all proceeds support Delaware Friends of Folk and their October festival.
