Recently, I was reading a book to my almost two-year-old son that covered all kinds of terms for groups of animals. A caravan of camels. A drove of donkeys. Here’s a fun one… a flamboyance of flamingos. A charm of hummingbirds. A fever of stingrays. A murder of crows. You get the idea. This got me thinking. What is a group of breweries called? As your resident beer guy, I wanted to find out. In strictly business terms, you might call it a conglomerate, or perhaps a collective, but that’s not as much fun as the ones listed prior. How about a bunch of breweries? Or a bundle? Could it be a brouhaha of breweries? Dare I say a bouquet? Whatever the answer might be, we’ve got something of the sort heading our way, as three brand-new breweries are slated to open in our area in the coming weeks.
We’re heading just west of Ocean City for our first stop in Berlin, Maryland. Here you’ll find existing breweries like Burley Oak and Sinepunxent Brewing Company, with a new one joining them very soon. Say hello to Berlin Beer Company. Owner/Head Brewer Adam Davis brings years of brewing experience to this operation. Expect IPAs, lagers, sours, stouts, and good vibes all around. Berlin Beer Company is shooting to be open for Labor Day Weekend. So, check out their Instagram or Facebook to stay up to date.
Next up, we have a nanobrewery in Seaford. Bear Cult Brewing, operating out of Brimming Horn Meadery, is now producing its first two beers which will be available to the public around the end of August. They’re offering a Belgian Golden Ale called Solbjorn (Sun Bear) and a Dry stout called NattBjorn (Night Bear). Safe to say they will be beary good.
And last but certainly not least, drumroll please… Lewes Brewing Company. We’ve all been waiting patiently for this spot to open and the time is coming very soon. Situated on Savannah next to the Georgetown-Lewes Trail, this is going to be the ultimate spot to polish off a few pints after a day of walking or cycling. Owners Dave and Christine Jones are just about ready to open those doors for business. The final touches are nearly complete, and it’s looking like we’ll finally be getting a taste next month as their goal is to be open sometime in September… I’ll be there with bike bells on.
