Expect the Unexpected

One of the best things about summer at the Delaware beaches is that you never quite know what you’re going to stumble across next.

One minute you’re riding a bike trail. The next you’re discovering a yard full of mannequins. You head out for a beer and find two local breweries collaborating on a summer release. You stop for dinner and learn a local landmark restaurant has entered a new era. And if you’re really lucky, you might look up and spot a flying car over Sussex County.

This week, we meet a group of local artists using jewelry, paint, mixed media and spoken word to explore identity, culture and creativity. We celebrate Pride Month with Kadet Kelly’s survival guide, hit the trails with Nancy Sakaduski, build temporary masterpieces in the sand and catch up with Heather Chirtea, the woman behind Delaware’s first female-owned flying car.

Live & Local rounds up waterfront blues, drag shows, mystery cruises and a country songwriter worth the ticket, while Hari Cameron reminds us that sometimes the best meals begin with leftovers.

Summer doesn’t arrive all at once around here. It shows up in unexpected discoveries, creative people and stories that make you stop and say, “Wait, what?”

Now get out there and see what you can find.
