Seaside Nature Center

Discover a Nature Center

What’s this thing I found on the beach? What does an osprey nest look like? What made that footprint? Where do horseshoe crabs live?

Get answers to your questions at one of our great nature centers. All are free, but hours vary.

BETHANY BEACH NATURE CENTER

Housed in a historic cottage, the Bethany Beach Nature Center offers demonstration gardens, special events, hands-on activities for all ages, and a trail that’s home to more than 100 species of wild birds, diamondback terrapins, minnows, reptiles, and amphibians.

SEASIDE NATURE CENTER (LEWES)

Located in Cape Henlopen State Park, the Seaside Nature Center features a 300-gallon, two-level touch tank with viewing windows, five 1,000-gallon tanks filled with local fish, exhibits explaining the area’s habitats, and a live osprey cam. You can even borrow a bike to explore trails within the park.

PRIME HOOK NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE (MILTON)

Not technically a nature center, but the visitor center at Prime Hook has educational displays, including taxidermy specimens of many of the animals you might see while visiting. There’s also an auditorium where visitors can view nature films and learn about things to do and places to see.

DUPONT NATURE CENTER (MILFORD)

Located where the Mispillion River and Cedar Creek meet at the Delaware Bay, the DuPont Nature Center is surrounded by a habitat that’s home to more than 130 species of birds, fish, shellfish, and other animals. Visitors can take tours to learn about horseshoe crabs, shorebirds, and the Delaware Bayshore region as they explore the center’s exhibits, or download one of the self-guided programs.
