Coastal Parks You’ll Want to Explore

Looking for a quick escape from the beach crowds? These city parks are free, open daily, and packed with things to do. Whether you’re solo, with the kids, or just need a quiet place to chill, here are a few local favorites.

Canalfront Park, Lewes

Right in downtown Lewes, this park has a playground, tennis and pickleball courts, a basketball court, native gardens, picnic tables, and even game tables with checkers and chess pieces.

George H.P. Smith Park, Lewes

Tucked behind Beebe Hospital, this park offers disc golf, bocce, horseshoes, a butterfly garden, picnic tables, and a fenced playground. The highlight is Block Pond, which has an island with a picnic pavilion.

Grove Park, Rehoboth Beach

Located near the circle as you enter town, Grove Park sits next to the canal dock, museum, and visitors center. It includes a playground, picnic pavilion, and a farmers market on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Lake Gerar Park, Rehoboth Beach

This shady 15-acre park has a freshwater lake, a quiet playground, and an Italian garden. It’s a peaceful spot just a short walk from the north end of the boardwalk.

Bethany Beach Central Park

Near the entrance to town, this park is a calm, scenic space with a gazebo and walking paths. It’s great for a jog or a bench break to soak up some peace and quiet.

The new ship-themed playground at Canalfront Park opened March 31 and is already a hit. Designed for accessibility, it lets all kids join the fun. BILL SHULL PHOTO
