Samantha (Sam) Buford is a lifelong lover of reading and writing, and has been an educator in Southern Delaware for 22 years. She currently holds the position of English Teacher at Cape Henlopen High School and is the school’s resident “Yogi” who started a free Yoga Club for both students and staff this year. “It’s an incredible outlet for stress relief and an activity for kids who weren’t necessarily, competitive athletes, to take part in something that’s both physically and mentally good for them,” Sam explains. Sam started yoga after wanting to find inner balance and combat her own anxiety. “I wanted to deepen my practice after I saw the benefits of yoga, so I took teacher training courses.” Sam has been a certified yoga teacher for 10 years, and ran the High School Yoga Club weekly, from February to April. “I had a great response, and it’s definitely something I’ll be doing next year.” You can now take one of her classes at One Love Yoga, located on Rt 1. corridor in Rehoboth Beach, Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. www.oneloveyoga.co.
Since Sam is an expert on Summer Reading (she reads 15-20 books a summer) we snagged a few recommendations of great summer reads, to share with our readers:
The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell by Robert Dugoni
The City We Became, and The World We Make by N. K. Jemisin
The Night Watchman and The Sentence by Louise Erdrich
Q: What is your favorite part about living in Coastal Delaware?
Sam: “I grew up here, and it was quiet and beautiful but I love how much it’s grown. Now, we could see an amazing play by Clear Space Theatre, eat at some of the best restaurants, be a beach bum and surf, or walk our beautiful trails. We’re just so lucky.
Q: Tell us something about yourself we wouldn’t otherwise know?
Sam: “In the summer, I love the backyard oasis I’ve created with my husband, so I never want to leave. I do maybe one tank of gas all summer,” She laughs.
Q: By Definition, a crush is a brief infatuation with something…what are you currently crushing on?
Sam: “Putting my energy into love and kindness. As much as we can, out into the universe—the world needs it!
