Rewind back to Bethany Beach 1985

The Bethany Beach totem pole, known as Chief Little Owl, is an iconic symbol of the town. Originally carved by Peter Wolf Toth in 1976 as part of his “Trail of Whispering Giants,” this 24-foot statue has been standing tall and proud at the town’s entrance. Despite weather damage leading to replacements in 1992 and 2000, Toth returned in 2002 to carve the latest version from Alaskan red cedar, ensuring its legacy endures with style and strength.
