Pride Never Packs Up

Some towns celebrate Pride for a weekend. Rehoboth Beach lives it year-round. But come June, we turn the dial from “queer-friendly” to queer AF – and honey, it’s not just for show.

This town has long been a sanctuary for LGBTQ+ folks – not just a seasonal escape, but a year-round safe haven where authenticity isn’t just accepted, it’s celebrated. Before rainbow crosswalks and proclamations, queer folks carved out space in art galleries, beach gatherings, and bars – long before it was safe to do so.

Pride in Rehoboth isn’t just about dressing up and dancing (though, obviously – yes). It’s a reminder that visibility is radical, and drag on a Sunday night is more than entertainment –  it’s tradition, survival, and community.

Pride began as a protest. It still is. Every flag we raise, every laugh we share, and every wig we sweat through is a tribute to the ones who marched, fought, and lived boldly so we could be here – loud and visible on these sandy shores. So this June and beyond – remember:

• Show up for yourself and your community.

• Learn the names, the stories, the shoulders we stand on.

• Laugh loudly, love loudly, and live unapologetically.

• And when the glitter’s gone and the heels come off – stay proud.

With heart, history, and one too many wigs,
Kadet Kelly
Rehoboth’s reigning queen of queer cheer.

WHERE’S KADET THIS MONTH?

You’ll find me sweating in a corset somewhere in town most weekends:

Fridays at Freddie’s Beach Bar – 9 p.m.

Our coastal cabaret! Come for the drinks, stay for the drama (and maybe a surprise guest or two).

Sundays at The Purple Parrot –  9 p.m.

The infamous backyard drag show. A local rite of passage – and one of the most joyfully unhinged nights in town.
