Matthew McKay

Bowls, Smoothies, and a Family Touch

Matthew McKay is bringing healthy “fast food” to Rehoboth Beach with his mini food truck, 302 Acai, located on the Route 1 corridor in the parking lot of Touch of Italy, Hickman’s Meats, and Outlet Liquors. The McKay family has owned businesses in Delaware for over 25 years, and now their focus is serving what just might be the best açaí bowls at the beach.

Everything is made to order and starts with a delicious base – açaí, pumpkin, pineapple, coconut, banana, or pitaya – topped with freshly cut fruit, healthy add-ons, and a mini water with every order. “My family and I would travel and search for the best açaí – we loved it and decided to do it ourselves here in Delaware.”

You can find Matthew, his wife Gretchen, and their two daughters, Ellie (21) and Addison (18), serving açaí in season – open 7 days a week, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed November 15 to March 15). The menu includes bowls, smoothies, protein shakes, energy drinks, and Gretchen’s famous homemade Peanut Butter Protein Balls. “My wife is a healthy fanatic, and after 24 years of marriage, I’m finally catching up to her,” Matthew laughs.

Matthew’s Personal Favorite Order:

“The 302 Bowl! It’s an açaí base with granola, honey, strawberries, bananas, and I add peanut butter!”

CRUSH QUESTIONS

Q: What’s your favorite part about living in coastal Delaware?

Matthew: “The smell of salt air, hearing seagulls, and being so close to the ocean. It’s my wife’s happy place, so it makes me happy.”

Q: Tell us something about yourself we wouldn’t otherwise know.

Matthew: “I can ride a 6-foot unicycle, and when I used to own the vacuum store, I rode it in the parking lot holding an 8-pound vacuum.”

Q: By definition, a crush is a brief infatuation with something … what are you currently crushing on?

Matthew: “A healthy lifestyle. My wife and I avoid seed oil and processed foods.”
