Cheers to 30 Years

Set your time machines to 1995, folks – we’re taking a little trip. Coolio is topping the charts with “Gangsta’s Paradise.” “Forrest Gump” wins Best Picture at the Oscars, beating out “Pulp Fiction” and “The Shawshank Redemption.” Cal Ripken plays his 2,131st consecutive MLB game, surpassing Lou Gehrig on the Iron Man list. Philadelphia Flyer Eric Lindros, a childhood hero of mine, wins MVP of the National Hockey League. That was the ’90s. It’s safe to say those were simpler times.

Perhaps the most important thing that occurred that year happened right here in Delaware. Thirty years ago, Dogfish Head opened its doors in Rehoboth Beach, becoming the first brewpub in the First State.

A lot has changed since then. They’ve brought new styles and techniques to the beer world, truly becoming a craft brewing powerhouse. They’ve dabbled in the distilling space and now create crushable canned cocktails. They’ve opened a hotel in Lewes and built a behemoth of a brewery in Milton. The list goes on. We’ve gotten to watch them grow up right before our eyes.

Thirty years in this industry is a serious feat – and calls for a serious celebration.

THE SCHEDULE

FRI, JUNE 20

Dogfish is dropping a collaborative IPA brewed alongside North Park Beer Co. called Manifest the Awesomeness. North Park is based in San Diego, so you may be unfamiliar – but trust me, they know their way around an incredible IPA. This one is continually “drip-hopped,” a new, experimental technique that ensures hoppy goodness in every sip. Snag a four-pack at Brewing & Eats while supplies last.

Expect live music Friday and Saturday at both the Milton and Rehoboth locations.

SUN, JUNE 22

Warm up those vocal cords. Dogfish is hosting Live Band Karaoke at Brewing & Eats from 9 p.m. to midnight.

MON, JUNE 23

Start the day off with a lobster brunch at Chesapeake & Maine from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Then head to the Milton brewery for the grand finale from 12 to 6 p.m. – birthday cake, four sets of live music, and a tattoo pop-up. Local artist Joseph Furio will be on-site offering off-centered ink in honor of the occasion.

Cheers to thirty years – hope to see you there.
