A postcard of Cape Henlopen Lighthouse at Rehoboth Beach. Ninety-eight years ago on April 13, the Cape Henlopen Lighthouse, standing since around 1765, fell due to coastal erosion. Built to combat shipwrecks near Cape Henlopen, it was made of ashlar granite and stood 69 feet tall with 6-feet-thick walls. Despite efforts to save it, the lighthouse collapsed on a spring day, becoming a local attraction as its stones were collected as souvenirs.
